Arrival in Doesburg
We live right underneath the church tower in the heart of the historical small medieval city of Doesburg in the eastern part of the Netherlands and just 10 minutes away from the German border.
Doesburg is a small Hanze trade city situated along the IJssel river. The IJssel is an offspring from the Rhine river. Doesburg remained small due to the shallow depth of the river prohibiting larger boats to travel the river. The historical character of Doesburg gives it the charm. We live right in the center of Doesburg overlooking the market square.
Nearest airfield: Teuge (EHTE)
If you plan to arrive by plane, we can suggest you to fly to Teuge Airport (EHTE). The airport is VFR-only during daytime and becomes an IFR-only airfield after sunset in the evening with a GPS approach. The airport is quite relaxed with reference to arriving or departing during the day for an IFR-join with several jet owners on the field.
Teuge Airport is located about 35 km away from Doesburg. We can help arrange your arrival, (hangar)parking and a pickup from the airport. Just let us know.
Direct link to AIP Netherlands info and approach plates. You can park outside next to the tower or if you prefer you can park inside the hangar of a friend.
Parking
If you arrive by car, then please note that you cannot park your car long term in the historical center of Doesburg. If you are leaving again on the Sunday night, then you can park right in the center of Doesburg on the market square. Just drive to the big church tower and park below it. If you are staying overnight, then it is best to park your car at the parking called ‘De Bleek’. When you cross the bridge over the IJssel river, take the first exit right after the bridge going down into the center of Doesburg. At the end of the exit turn right and immediately right again for parking. The location of our house as well as the Lalique Museum are depicted on the map below as well.
Art Deco & Art Nouveau: Lalique Museum
In the afternoon we will be visiting a special and unique place in Doesburg: the Lalique Museum. Here we will get a private tour given by friends and owners Aum and Santino. Aum and Santino are friends and will also join us for the wine tasting later in the evening in our home. Aum and Santino will welcome us at their grand piano with music, a first drink and introduce us to the world of Art Deco, Art Nouveau and share their passion with us showing us the works of René Lalique.
Italian Wine Tasting
The theme of the wine tasting in the evening is Italian wine. The tasting will take place in our home. We will be tasting about 10 – 12 different great Italian wines and hope to explore together which ones to be our favorites.
For those going back home the same night, the wine tasting will end approximately at 22:15 or a little later 🙂 However, there is also an opportunity to stay overnight in our historical city and share breakfast with us the next morning.
Bed & Breakfast
We have reserved rooms at two b&b addresses walking distance from our home in the center of Doesburg that we really like ourselves. Just let us know if you plan to stay the night and we confirm the reservation for you and will send you the details.
