Just finished reading Purple Cow written by Seth Godin. This book is about transforming your business basically by being remarkable and offering great products (the best) and services. Old ways of marketing, branding and promoting do not seem to work anymore in the age of new media. Seth has a fresh approach.
This is how the book is introduced on Amazon: “You’re either a Purple Cow or you’re not. You’re either remarkable or invisible. Make your choice. What do Apple, Starbucks, Dyson and Pret a Manger have in common? How do they achieve spectacular growth, leaving behind former tried-and-true brands to gasp their last? The old checklist of P’s used by marketers – Pricing, Promotion, Publicity – aren’t working anymore. The golden age of advertising is over. It’s time to add a new P – the Purple Cow.”
This introduction on Amazon comes with loads of good reviews from Amazon customers that left their comment after reading the book. But it was actually another branding site that triggered me into reading this book as the site publisher of that branding & marketing website mentioned this book as one of the books that influenced him the most recently.
Seemingly it is not that straight forward anymore on how to brand and market new products. In the past, it was relatively “easy” and a straight forward strategy could be designed by the marketing department. Read “Purple Cow” and find out how this all changed over the years and how you can tackle it today.
