Ten years ago, I worked with a team of 8 software developers on this software for three years. We stopped developing after having deployed the software at several launching customers for several reasons. It has been sitting on the shelf now for 7 years and low and behold … it is back online again, fully updated and ready.
Migration process
The software was developed at the time in Visual Studio as an ASP.NET application, written in C#. One of the things that changed in developing .NET applications is the introduction of the MVC framework in 2009 for .NET. Up to then, Then, we had old scripts to generate the basic database structure and would this still work after all those years and many updates further of Microsoft SQL server? Then, at that time we were using an object-relational mapping (ORM) solution called NHibernate. A lot of questions and so glad it all worked out ok and we have it all running again in the latest version of Microsoft Visual Studio, including the desktop applications, licensing and everything else.
Some Screenshots
Below some screenshots of the web-based software framework. More information on the software can be found on the Accento Real Estate Software website: www.accentosoftware.com.
Next Steps
The initiative to get the software updated and back online came from a company in South Africa interested in using our real estate software within their business in Africa as well as in Europe. Great opportunity and I am looking forward to the collaboration.
